Bergsis 13 - 3 MFG

The lads were very pumped up for the game and took to the field with a lot of confidence. The entire squad made a guard of honour for Briggsy to run through to mark his 100th cap for school.

Before the game both teams and spectators observed a minutes silence for Jeff Savage (Garry's dad) who passed away the week before departure. Garry was naturally very emotional but the squad rallied round and the South Africans were kind and generous. One lady came out of the stands to give him a hug and Garry ended up billetting with her.

The match itself was a very close encounter. MFG enjoyed the majority of posession winning scrum and lineout relativley well. We lost because we got turned over too easily at 3rd and 4th phase. We broke the gain line with almost every attack but The South Africans were very quick getting to the breakdown and spoiling.

The only try came 5 minutes before the end when their big prop bundled over from 2 yards. We had our chances with Briggsy and Lowther breaking through a couple of times. Galindo was a yard short with a strong run and Antony almost scored in the corner. It was tough losing a game we could have won but it wasnt through any lack of effort.

A special mention to Booth, Harrison, Briggs, S Womersley and Galindo who all played very well.
